TRAINING / WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Business
and industry in the Shoals draw from a civilian labor
force in excess of 410,000 workers from a thirteen county
area. A recent independent economic assessment of
the commuting watershed noted the population growth for
the Shoals is expected to be significant, contributing to
the available supply of labor.
Dramatic improvements on
standardized tests by students in Shoals Area school
systems affirm education is an economic development
asset. The partnership between Northwest-Shoals
Community College, the University
of North Alabama, the North
Alabama Skills Center, the Alabama
Technology Network, the high school vocational
education centers and the Shoals Industry-Education
Training Alliance provides a framework for the development
of training programs target specifically in response to
the demonstrated needs of local business and industry.
Market demands, advances
in technology, and basic changes in demographics, mandate
training providers maintain dynamic programs continually
changing to meet current needs and anticipating future
workforce requirements. On-going collaboration
between business, industry and the training providers will
assure that THE SHOALS WORKS.
