The W.C.
Handy Music Festival has been named 2007 Event of the Year by
the state Bureau of Tourism and Travel. Criteria for the award
include economic impact, effective marketing, increased appeal to
tourists, increased attendance and enhanced local, regional or
state image as a tourist destination. W.C.
Handy Music Festival annually draws an estimated 150,000
people during its 10-day run. It began in 1982 as a weekend event
with live music venues.It is sponsored by the Music Preservation
Society each summer and offers many free events.

available and may be picked up at your Guidance Counselor’s
office. Any High
School Sophomore in the Shoals area is welcome to apply to the
nine month program. Youth
Leadership Shoals is coordinated through the Shoals Chamber of
Commerce and is sponsored by Pepsi/Buffalo
Rock.
