"I have been having problems with sleep apnea for quite some time. A few years ago, I actually started to receive treatment in Nashville, but after realizing that all the travelling wasn't worth it, I started looking at the healthcare provided locally. What I found was that we have wonderful doctors and healthcare providers right here in the Shoals. Why go out of town when you have these services available locally? I've now been receiving treatment locally for about six years, and I really can't think of a reason anymore to ever go elsewhere."

We have physicians and healthcare providers practicing here in the Shoals who could be practicing anywhere. Many people don't realize, but places such as Vanderbilt and UAB have actually asked several of our physicians here in the Shoals to relocate and work on staff with them. But they have chosen to remain here, which says a lot about the quality of healthcare we have available in the Shoals. As a board certified physician with both medical and dental degrees, I travel all over the state inspecting facilities, and I can tell you our hospitals, services and specialties here in the Shoals are second to none. We have people who are truly invested in this area and the healthcare available here, and there's a level of quality here that really makes a difference. Personally, I could live and practice anywhere in the country, but I've chosen the Shoals area. There's something special about the Shoals. It's home.

Cardiovascular Surgery of the Shoals

"I was facing open-heart surgery. I had gone to my family doctor in Killen with tightness in my chest and pain in my arm. After doing a stress test, it was determined that I needed bypass surgery. My physician gave me a choice of either going to Birmingham to have the surgery, or to stay here in the Shoals. After learning of the great reputation of the cardiovascular surgeon (Dr. Stinson) who would do the procedure if I stayed here in the Shoals, and after considering the burden it would be on my family if I went to Birmingham, I decided to stay here. And I have not regretted that decision. The team of doctors, nurses and staff that helped me really had a team mentality. It was a very positive experience. I can't imagine the quality of care being any better anywhere else."
