EDUCATION
There are four cities and two counties in the Shoals, and the competition between school systems makes each strive to be the best. Citizens of the Shoals place a priority on education, and the test scores tell the story: Shoals area students score among the highest in the state and in the Southeast.
There are two county and four city school systems within the Shoals, offering complete academic and vocational education from preschool to twelfth grade. A host of secular and non-parochial private schools offer alternatives for parents who want a particular emphasis for their children.
After high school, many students choose to remain in the Shoals. The University of North Alabama offers a variety of academic choices, and Northwest-Shoals Community College gives specialized training as well as retraining for the adult student considering a career change. Heritage Christian also offers a specialized education.
The Shoals supplements these institutions with a regional library system that includes major libraries in each city. Students of every age find educational opportunities everywhere in the Shoals.
