Youth Leadership is a program offered to up coming
11th graders, to get involved and learn more about
their community and leadership roles.
Over 100 applicants apply each year, only 40 are
accepted.
This is a non-tuition program, that runs solely on
sponsorships.

ORIENTATION
AND RECEPTION
Sunday,
August 22, 2010, 2:00 p.m.
Youth
Leadership Shoals class, parents, and sponsors are invited to meet each
other and hear the goals and objectives for the 2010-2011 program.
“THE
ROPES” BEAR CREEK EDUCATIONAL FACILITY
Saturday,
September 25, 8:00 a.m. - Sunday, September 26, noon 2010
Participants
will spend the day learning “the ropes” and getting to know each
other (and themselves) by working on team building activities.
Various discussions and activities will facilitate each
participant’s evaluation of their own leadership potential.
We depart the Shoals Saturday morning and return Sunday around
noon. This
is the most important session of the year. While 100% attendance is
expected throughout the year, this session is absolutely mandatory.
Failure to attend this session will result in an automatic dismissal
from the program.
HISTORY
OF THE SHOALS/Lunch Sponsor Demos Restaurant
Monday,
October 11, 2010, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participants
will visit historic sites and hear from speakers so that they may gain a
better understanding of the history of the entire Shoals.
QUALITY OF LIFE
Thursday,
November 11, 2010, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participants
will experience first hand how "quality of life" plays a vital
part of their well being. Session
will include topics such as health and fitness, drug awareness,
environment, and leadership skills.
COMMUNITY
SERVICE
December
– Various projects open to participants
Participants
will time learning about and volunteering for service organizations to
gain a better understanding of the importance of getting involved in the
community.
BUSINESS
IN THE SHOALS
Monday,
January 17, 2011, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Class
will gain an in depth knowledge of business in the Shoals area and
throughout the Southeast. We
will study career paths, etiquette, interview skills, resume writing,
and visit local businesses to have a hands on look at what it takes to
run a successful business.
COMMUNITY
AWARENESS/Lunch Sponsor: Demos Restaurant:
Monday,
February 21, 2011, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Participants
will gain a better understanding about what makes the Shoals Area
unique. From learning about
different cultures and art and entertainment, to learning about the
criminal justice system and public safety we will learn why the Shoals
is truly a great place to call home.
CLASS
SERVICE PROJECT
March

Participants
will learn the value of working as a team to accomplish a specific task
to better their community.
GRADUATION
Sunday,
April 25, 2011 (tentative), 2:00 p.m.
The Class will participate in a
formal graduation ceremony and reflect on the past year with their
classmates. Families are
encouraged to attend.
